Getting Started
The First Step
To find out if Diving is for you we can arrange a try dive in the safety and comfort of the pool, where a fully qualified instructor will introduce you to some of the experiences and pleasures that can be gained from diving.
We provide all equipment needed for a try dive, all you need is a swimming costume and a T-shirt or similar if you wish, all a try dive costs is the £2.50 entry for the pool session, then off down the pub so we can explain anything else you need to know about the club.
All we ask is that you contact us to arrange it via the email link so we can have all the equipment ready for you so you get the full hour in the pool and you are over 14 years of age.

The Second Step
After the experience of the try dive you will need to decide if you want to join up and learn all about scuba, if you do wish to join up you will need to complete a medical examination to find out if it is safe for you to come diving, our local diving doctor will do this for a nominal fee, or you could go to your own GP, but they might charge more for this.
If you pass this medical examination you will then have to pay your membership to Bsac and to the Solway Club, without them you cannot dive with us as our insurance only covers us for training members of the club and not individuals of the public.
The membership includes all your training for 12 months, air, use of equipment and entry into the pool.

Costs
Diving isn't a cheap sport but with perseverance you can manage with a few items until you can afford to buy more. The club will lend equipment as and when you require it for training in the pool and also hire equipment for open water.
For your pool training it would be useful if you had your own mask, pool fins and snorkel and for open water you will need to buy a Dry Suit, Undersuit, Hood and Gloves.   Club members will be happy to assist with equipment and more can be found about equipment and prices on the Links page.
Drysuits range from £200 up to and over £1000, undersuits can be upto £120, hood and gloves from £30 upwards.
Once you are diving you will need to buy your own equipment which can cost from the basic set up around £1000 upto £5000 plus for technical equipment, but don't let this put you off as you don't have to buy it all at once.
